Storing Blink Videos without Subscription Payment Plan
If, like me, you couldn’t figure out what the Amazon Blink video storage options actually were, let me clarify:
You CAN do motion detection video recording without paying a monthly fee (by connecting your own USB device to the Blink Sync Module)… you just can’t play them back on your phone. Instead you have to move your USB device from the Blink module to your computer.
Their on-screen instructions are confusing and unclear; their pricing plan chart is deceptive, incomplete, and misleading.
The Blink instructions to hook up your own USB device are simple and clear, although my first attempt (to a large USB backup drive) was incompatible, and a delay while my flash drive configured was a little confusing. But then you have to try to figure out why you can’t see your videos. And you read the idiotic words on the screen that say “No clip recorded…” and “This camera is not recording because you do not have a Blink storage plan,” and you start wondering WTF? Surely if I’m connecting a USB device, it’s for the sole purpose of recording???!!!
They just want your $3 per month. They want it bad enough to lie and cheat and mislead. They’re more than capable of writing clear messaging when they want to.
