I was curious how long the list was of these things. And it’s easy to ridicule or doubt some of them, but imagine if all of them were NOT done in all households… that would add up over 300 million people.

  • Compost 99% of our kitchen garbage
  • Don’t turn on lights every time we walk into a room
  • Put dry towels in with the laundry dryer when starting a load
  • Dry jeans by air, hanging them behind a door in a bedroom
  • Use a skylight for mudroom light
  • Use a fireplace insert to burn wood
  • Don’t flush the toilet every single time
  • Use LED lights throughout
  • Use motion-sensing light switches in closets
  • Use the latest technology high-efficiency furnace
  • Keep our summer home temperature relatively high
  • Keep our winter home temperature relatively low
  • Shade the windows in summer
  • Use ceiling fans throughout
  • Recycle paper and plastic
  • Store leftovers in glass or recycled jars takeout containers
  • Use one-time food wrapping only as a last resort
  • Compost/decompose all garden and yard vegetation
  • Combine driving trips
  • Use our highest mileage car when there’s a choice
